FAQ
How many working days are there in 2026?
In England and Wales there are 253 working days in 2026 (Monday to Friday, minus 8 bank holidays). Scotland has 252 and Northern Ireland 251. In the US there are 250 working days after the 11 federal holidays.
Are bank holidays counted as working days?
No. The calculator takes bank holidays off when they fall on one of your working days. If a holiday falls on a day you don't work anyway (for example a weekend), it doesn't change the count, which the holiday list shows as "on a day off".
What happens when a bank holiday falls on a weekend?
In the UK a substitute day is given, usually the following Monday. When Christmas Day and Boxing Day both fall on a weekend, the substitutes are Monday and Tuesday. US federal holidays on a Saturday are observed on the Friday before, Sunday ones on the Monday after.
Is the start date included?
When counting days between two dates, both the start and end date are included. When adding working days, the start date itself is not counted: 10 working days from a Monday is the Monday two weeks later (with no holidays in between).
Can I count working days for a 4-day or 6-day week?
Yes. Tick the days you work, for example Monday to Thursday or Monday to Saturday. The holiday count and working weeks adjust automatically.
Why does my state or employer have extra days off?
The calculator uses official bank holidays and US federal holidays. US states add their own holidays, and many employers give extra days such as Christmas Eve. Subtract those days from the result, or check your contract.
